15 FUN THINGS TO DO... WITHOUT TECHNOLOGY (gasp!)

The sad reality is that technology has taken over our lives and it is up to us to make a conscious effort to take some time and do something fun without technology.

Make it a point to schedule some screen-free time on your calendar and take a look at our list below for some fun ideas.

1. HAVE A PICNIC

Whether it's a romantic picnic for 2 or a gathering of a few friends, picnics are special and we should all have them more often. The good news is they don't need to be fancy to be magical. Grab a sheet or a blanket, a few easy snacks and a good bottle of wine and voilà you've got yourself a picnic. Add a little vase with some flowers from your garden + some music and the picnic is elevated to something truly special. This one should definitely be on your list of things-to-do.

2. SEND A HANDWRITTEN CARD

We are firm believers that handwritten cards are sweet little surprises that should be sent often. There is something so special about getting a handwritten card in the mail and we try to send cards to our loved ones not only to wish them a happy birthday but also just to say we're thinking of you.

3. MINI BOOK CLUB

Who said a book club needs to consist of 10 people sitting in a circle once a month deeply discussing the latest pick? We made a book club of 2. Yep, Lauren + I are in our very own little book club and surprisingly, it's a lot more fun than reading a book on your own! So give it a try - grab someone and create your own mini club.

4. DO A PUZZLE

Lauren bought me a puzzle for something to do after my knee surgery and I have to say, once I got into it, it was fun! In fact, it was so fun that she went out and got us more puzzles! When working on it, you almost feel like a part of your brain that you haven't used since you were a kid is at work!

5. READ A NEWSPAPER

And by newspaper we mean an old-fashioned, hard to hold + fold newspaper. We still love a good Sunday paper curled up with a chai latte or hot cup of coffee and a blanket reading the paper. Try it sometime!

6. MAKE A NEW BAKED GOOD

We all have them, those recipes that pile up, so go ahead + try that recipe you've saved forever but have yet to make. And even better, bring it to a neighbor for them to enjoy... maybe they'll even invite you in for a coffee so you can try your creation for yourself and have a nice chat while you're there.

7. GO TO A COMEDY SHOW

It's something we don't often think of, but let me assure you... you'll love every minute of it! Actually, we need to put this one on our own calendar - we are due for a a night full of belly laughs!

8. VISIT A MUSEUM

I for one LOVE a museum especially if it is filled with art. I could lose myself all day in the Art Institute and find myself doing so as often as possible. Maybe it's time to try another museum - and learn something new while we're at it!

9. TAKE A BATH

Take a little time for some well deserved R+R. Bring in the candles, put on some music, break out those Epsom salts, pour yourself a glass of wine and relax with a good book in the tub.

10. GO STARGAZING

Study the constellations and then take a drive somewhere remote to see them in real life. There is something so mystical about the night's sky so make a night of it and admire the stars above.

11. CASH IN ON OLD GIFT CARDS

Why are you holding on to those gift cards from last Christmas or your birthday? What are you waiting for? It is time to cash in on them and treat yourself. After all, hanging onto gift cards is a surefire way to lose them so don't let them go to waste!

12. SPEND TIME WITH THE ELDERLY

You may start off thinking you're doing something nice by spending time with someone who may be lonely but soon you will find that you are the one who is grateful for your time together.

13. GO FOR A LONG DRIVE

Find somewhere new to go on a day road trip and remember to bring a map - no Waze allowed! It's funny how many people don't enjoy the sights right around their own home so go see what your area has to offer!

14. HIT THE DRIVING RANGE

Or if that's too scary at least hit the miniature golf place that you haven't been to since middle school - it can actually be a ton of fun (especially if you stop for a quick drink beforehand).

15. TACKLE THAT CLOSET

You know you've put off cleaning your closet for far too long. Well, there's no time like the present to go organize it. And just think of how good you'll feel when it's done and you're hauling off all of the stuff you don't wear anymore to Goodwill for someone else to enjoy!
