If you are living in an area that is experiencing the polar vortex like we are, or if you are in another cold, snowy place, you are probably trying to stay warm. My thoughts turned to a nice cup of hot chocolate, but I thought that might not even do the trick. So I looked online and found many suggestions for an adult hot chocolate and I think this will solve the problem. Everyone knows how to make hot chocolate, so I won’t bore you with the instructions, but this might just give you some ideas on how to upgrade the drink.
From: The Food Network (6 servings)
5 ounces of good quality chopped dark chocolate
4 cups of milk
2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
½ cup Amaretto liqueur or Kahlua
¼ cup whipping cream for garnish
cocoa powder or finely grated chocolate for garnish
From: Genius Kitchen (1 serving)
1 cup of hot cocoa mix made according to the package
1 ½ ounces of peppermint schnapps
3/4 ounce of vodka
2 Tablespoons of whipped cream
Top with chocolate shavings
Add one small peppermint stick candy
From: Polished World (2 servings)
6 ounces of good dark or semi-sweet chocolate
½ cup of water
½ cup of heavy cream
I cup of milk
3 Tablespoons of malted milk powder
3 Tablespoons of coffee liqueur
Top with fresh whipped cream
Top with crushed malted milk balls
Other sites suggested adding rum, almond liqueur, or hazelnut liqueur.
Whichever one I pick is sure to warm me up on this extremely cold day. And since it’s supposed to feel like 40 below in the next day or two, I might pick a different flavor next.
Note: if you are living with someone who is avoiding alcohol or who is underage, make the hot chocolate alcohol free + only add the alcohol to your portion. That way no one will feel left out!
