PLASTIC BOTTLES - YUCK!

Updated: Feb 12, 2019

Here is something that both Lauren and I have said for years (or should I say preached about for years?). Do not use plastic water bottles unless you have no alternative at the moment. We have been using stainless steel, reusable containers for a long time. It is a small, easy step that you can make not only for lessening the impact on the environment, but also for your own health. Please see the below article about the problem.

Because of their convenience and widespread use, plastic bottles are a major source of pollution on the planet. According to the nonprofit Container Recycling Institute, more than 60 million plastic bottles end up in U.S. landfills and incinerators each day.

And not only are plastic bottles bad for Mother Earth, they aren’t exactly good for your body, either. They can contain a chemical called bisphenol A, or BPA, which is a synthetic hormone that mimics estrogen, according to a report from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

The report explains:

“Hundreds of animal studies point to potential health dangers from exposure in the uterus before birth. These include abnormal development of the brain, breast, and prostate. Many animal studies link the chemical to reproductive disorders, including infertility, feminizing of male organs in fetuses, and early puberty in females.”

A Better alternative:

Invest in some plastic-free reusable water bottles from a brand such as Klean Kanteen, which makes vacuum-insulated stainless steel bottles and other reusable containers.
